IAMSOUND Residency w/ IO Echo, White Arrow, HAIM, + Special Guest @ The Echo – FREE

IO ECHO || Listen
IO ECHO MAY BE NEW TO THE MUSIC SCENE BUT ALREADY THEY HAVE OPENED FOR FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE, THE BIG PINK, LA ROUX, HOT CHIP, AND OPENED FOR NINE INCH NAILS AT NIN’S FINAL SHOW. IO IS FROM THE EAST COAST. SHE WRITES SONGS IN A LATE HOUR LOCKED IN A BEDROOM SITUATION WITH HER TWIN, LEOPOLD ROSS. HE IS PALE AND BRITISH. HE ALSO PLAYS GUITAR IN THE BAND.

HAIM
“They’ve got so much attitude! You can practically see their necks doing that “Nuh uh, girl” side to side thing when you listen. As for the actual music, they sound kinda like… Fiona Apple and Alanis Morissette joined 4 Non Blondes or Hole? Is that too obscure? Like Brandi Carlile became a really big fan of P!nk and Aerosmith!”- MTV Buzzworthy Blog

WHITE ARROWS
“How’s this for a backstory? Mickey Schiff: Born blind, which really pushes him to the musical and hones his auditory function; gains sight at age 11, while still maintaining an appreciation and talent for sonic composition; studies Shamanism at NYU; moves back to LA to start a band with his brother and childhood friends, only to discover that one of those friends is actually his half brother by way of sperm donation; meanwhile, the band begins to pick up buzz in the LA scene.
Much like Brooklyn band Suckers, White Arrows’ sound is hard to define because from song to song, you’ll find yourself tossing out a variety of reference points and “this reminds me of [insert band name]” moments. That doesn’t make their sound derivative, just exploratory.”-Crawdaddy!

Atlas Sound @ The Echo

ATLAS SOUND || LISTEN || WATCH

One of the latest “true queer art punks” to emerge from the cracked pavement of southern suburban sprawl, Atlas Sound is the solo moniker of Deerhunter frontman / provocateur Bradford Cox. Here on his debut album, Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel, Cox / Sound moves out of dank nightclubs filled with eternal existential drone punk, and relaxes at home in his Grant Park, Atlanta bedroom. And this is, essentially, a bedroom album, a collage, mixing the garage rock and ambient electronic influences previously explored with Deerhunter in a new context, with newly acquired recording techniques, mainly laptop-based, learned with guidance from Kranky artist Nudge’s Brian Foote. The result is 14 Songs of melancholy and mania.

Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel is a true solo album, entirely created and produced by a single person. That is certainly not unique, especially in the contemporary scene. But Bradford Cox’s unusual talent is the ability to take a wide variety of seemingly incongruous sound elements, and seamlessly meld them into a cohesive pop narrative.

Jandek (feat. Mike Watt, and BJ Miller of HEALTH) @ Crystal Cove Auditorium (UC Irvine Student Center)

ACROBATICS EVERYDAY is beyond thrilled to present the enigmatic and illustrious outsider music original…

JANDEK

appearing for the first time in southern California and featuring:

Mike Watt, Bass
of The Minutemen, fIREHOSE, Dos, The Stooges

BJ Miller, Drums
of HEALTH

at the Crystal Cove Auditorium at the UC Irvine Student Center.

Doors at 7:30 PM and performance at 8 PM. No other artists will be performing.

Tickets are $20 and will be available at brownpapertickets:

http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/139412

A small amount may be available at Acrobatics Everyday shows as well, though there aren’t very many between now and this event.

——

In short: Jandek has been releasing music on his own Corwood Industries imprint for 32 years. The genre of this music is undefinable and best gleaned through listening to it. Jandek is an intensely private person who has submitted to one interview in his career and only began performing live in 2004, unannounced and unadvertised at a music festival in Scotland. Every show is unique and features the “Representative from Corwood,” usually with some ensemble of local musicians. This is the first-ever southwestern United States performance by Jandek.

For a thorough primer on Jandek, consider this link: http://tisue.net/jandek/
or this one: http://wfmu.org/LCD/22/jandek.html

“It’s like somebody making music from a description of what songs are without ever actually having heard any. You listen to those sounds on his records and you think, ‘What is this? How did he make this? What does it mean that he made this?”
“Jandek’s ultimate mission could be to test the mortal limits of patience, tolerance, and understanding. Perhaps he’s the Messiah, dispatched to Earth as an Outsider Musician, giving the human race one last chance to accept the unacceptable, to embrace that which is infinitely difficult to embrace.”

—–

We are very, very excited to be able to present this show in Orange County. It’s humbling to think that, under three years ago, “Irvine” was all but a dirty word in the context of music, art, and performance. To be able to present Jandek at UC Irvine represents a huge milestone for Acrobatics Everyday, but perhaps even more of one for anybody who has ever been to a show or event we have put together. It is a manifestation of exactly how much we have been able to do as a community in changing what “Irvine” and Orange County as a whole can mean in the last few years.
