On a recent trip into my iTUNES vault I re-discovered Los Angeles based electro-pop project NazcarNation. The project was started by two co-workers who were bored with the 9 to 5 and started working on songs together after hours.
The duo combine dub-step, hip-hop, indie pop and ambient influence to create a some pretty sweet down-tempo gems. These kind of jams seem like they would be right up Jason Bently’s ally.
You can pick up the Dynazty EP above and the act is also offering up a free remix album and stems for any would be remix artists.
I don’t know why but for some reason I have been listening to a lot of goth driven fuzzed electronic music lately. I think it all stems from the recent discovery of acts like San Francisco’s The Soft Moon. Their track “Breathe The Fire” is psychedelic/industrial in nature and has an almost cryptic vibe. It’s loaded with and intense fuzz and drone that dare I say is incredibly sensual. I’ve seen a lot of people refer to these kind of tunes as “Dark Pop.”
jangly art punk’s Dirt Dress will be the resident band every Monday this month at Spaceland – wait wha? Kind of a stunner there considering the band largely have only played at art galleries and all ages spaces across Southern California for the better part of two years. Still we’re happy to see them graduate to more a more traditional venue. Their track “Junk” is a shambolic ode to garage rock and worthy of a download.
The Monolators will be celebrating the release of their new double EP “Silver Cities/Ruby I’m Changing My Number” this Saturday at pehrspace in Echo Park. As most of you know I play bass in The Monolators and if you ask me I’m quite pleased with the way these new recordings came out.
A few months back we asked friends and loved ones to donate to the production costs of the record using Kickstarter. Thanks to your charitable donations The Monolators were able to raise enough to make this saucy double EP come to life on 12″ Vinyl!
You will be able to pick up the EP at the show on Saturday. It will be a GALA event so we asked that everyone come dressed to the nines in your best red or silver get up. I for one fully plan on getting gussied up!
Info for Saturday’s show can be found below. You can also Download “Silver Cities” off the new EP above. Hope to see you There!
Tamaryn‘s debut album The Waves is one sonic masterpiece and will easily earn a spot on my list of top album’s of the year. The project will play one final stateside show in San Francisco on Nov. 19th before taking a break for the remainder of the year. Check out yet another video from the album – this time for the track “Dawning” below. Also download an MP3 for one of my favorite tracks “Love Fade.”
Even a month after El Guincho‘s video for “Bombay” debuted I’m still finding myself watching it at least a few times a week. One of the best music videos I’ve seen in recent memory. Probably not safe for work so you might want to save this for viewing at home.
El Guincho‘s new album “Pop Negro” is out now on Young Turks/Beggars Group. IT.IS.FABULOUS.

I’m making a pact to start blogging again – therefore I will be making a post at least once a day for the month of November. I know y’all just missed me terribly and quite frankly – I missed me too.
There is so much amazing music floating out there these days. I would be remiss not to share some of my amazing finds with all of you. Only thing I ask is you pay it forward by sharing postings with your friends on facebook and twitter and support the bands by checking them out live in concert.
First up – a group that has been hovering silently under the radar in Los Angeles for several months now with some of the best 3 part vocal harmonies in recent memory – The Black Jesus. LA-Underground has already been singing their praises and it wont be long before the rest of Los Angeles picks up on their fabulous tunes. The 7 piece folk rock project features members of The Janks, and Gangi, and other established LA acts.
The band are currently working on their debut EP but will be playing in Slab City (I had to look it up too) on Nov 13th. Watch video of two of the
