If you have been reading my site for the last 6 years (WOW. 6 YEARS!) You know how thoroughly obsessed I am with both The Dodos and Neko Case. Finally FINALLY I got to see the pairing in action as The Dodos performed “Dont Try And Hide It” last night on Jimmy Fallon with assistance from the firey songstress.
Sparrows seem to be the bird of choice for most musicians. Wonder why that is? Peaking Lights unveiled their new video for their track “Hey Sparrow” today. I absolutely love the saturated color and imagery in this vid. Watch above.
I have eaglerly been awaiting Sharon Van Etten‘s follow up to her debut “Epic” – Which described pretty much exactly how I felt upon hearing it for the first time.
“Serpents” is the first track to be unveiled from her new album Tramp – due out Feb 7th on Jagjaguwar. The album was recorded with The National‘s Aaron Dessner is his studio.
Ive been sitting on posting Kodak To Graph‘s amazing debut EP Visio’l until I could get my head around writing something. I usually find that when I enjoy an album immensely it becomes very difficult for me to articulate into words why I feel my readers should give it a chance.
Well ladies and gents – You really want to give this one a chance.
Kodak To Graph is the brainchild of Pensacola, Florida’s Michael Maleki. He creates lush electronic landscapes with sparse vocals. This EP is broad and sweeping. An album you can easily get lost in. There is also a heavy eastern influence on much of the album.
I would be remiss not to inform you that RACES will celebrate the release of their debut EP TONIGHT at The Echo in Los Angeles. Show is Free, 21 yrs+, and the band plays at 10pm! Chain Gang of 1974 (residency) and Polaris At Noon will also play. Want the dirt? Check out Kevin Bronson’s write up on the band over at Buzz Bands [link].
Kind of weirdly entranced by Sepalcure’s video for “Pencil Pimp.” It made me go back and listen to pretty much every minimal bass influenced track I could find online. Sepalcure is a project of Brooklyn native Travis Stewart of Machinedrum fame and Braille. Look out for Sepalcure‘s debut album out in January on Hotflush Recordings (Home to Scuba and Mount Kimbie).

Is it just me or does it seem like Foster The People are trying to achieve an Marc Gomez Del Moral (best known for his videos for El Guincho and Battles) aesthetic in their new video for “Call it What You Want.” Video was directed by Ace Norton. Do you think they pulled it off successfully?
LA Based readers listen up. Wanted to share with you a worthwhile cause that is close to my heart. I regularly try to complete a 6 mile run from Echo Park up to the Silverlake Reservoir and back. To get there I run the length of Glendale Blvd up to the 2 fwy.
To say its dangerous is an understatement. Broken glass, garbage, shopping carts, and other hazards litter the broken and uneven sidewalks. The sidewalks and walls are covered in graffiti and hedges and grass overgrown to the point where you can no longer safely get through. Enough is enough.
This Saturday Nov 5th at 9am at group of residents will meet to help clean up our community. I fully plan on attending and lending a helping hand. YOU SHOULD TOO! Details on the flyer above. If anyone would like to ride over with me please email me and lets connect.
The tracks below are off Young Magic‘s new 7 inch which is out now on. Young Magic is the brainchild of young lad named Isaac Emmanuel living in New York by way of Australia’s East Coast. The project has now expanded to a three piece and cites influences drawn from “a symbiotic balance of the soundtracks of West Africa, Turkey, Brainfeeder hip-hop, UK Bass and 60s psychedelic soul.” Ok….. Simply put Youth Magic is a sonic experience drawing influence from a cavalcade of experimental genres and motifs. Good shit all around.
Young Magic will be on tour with Youth Lagoon during the month of November including TONIGHT at The Echo in Los Angeles. Show is SOLD OUT. Dates below.

Cass McCombs has yet to put out an album I didn’t love. “The Same Thing” is a new track off his forthcoming album Humor Risk out Nov 8th – his 2nd album of 2011. Purchase the album here and watch the video above.
