It is no mystery that I love and truly adore OK Go. I worked with the band on their last record Oh, No while I was at Capitol Records. The band recently split ways with EMI. Now on a label of their own making the band are free to do whatever they want with their videos including offering up their latest eye popping experiment “End Love” to fans to download for free on their website. They even launched a pretty web savvy contest using Facebook promoting one and all to download that shit totally for free.
There is seemingly no end to their creativity when it comes to making eye catching and stunning videos. Watch it below!!
PS. The video for “End Love” was filmed on Echo Park Lake. I actually live right on Echo Park Lake. You can actually see my house. haha

Thanks to Gorilla vs. Bear for this tasty tid-bit. Lo-Fi Pop duo Pearl Harbor have officially changed their name to Puro Instinct and have just released a new EP.
Changing band names seems to be a trend in Los Angeles these days. The Flying Tourbillon Orchestra=Walking Sleep. Afternoons=Shadow Shadow Shade. The Muslims=The Soft Pack. The Weather Underground=Red Cortez.
I quite liked the name Pearl Harbor so hopefully Puro Instinct grows on me.
Maybe this means I should change the name of this website?
The band will also be touring later this summer with Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti. You can also pick up a new digital EP direct from the band for only $5 on bandcamp. All the money goes straight to the band so be a dear and buy direct. The EP will be out on vinyl later this summer on Gloriette.

I got to know Brian and Dave of Japandroids a little bit this spring while Avi Buffalo were on the road with them. There is no denying how dedicated, hardworking, and absolutely crazy these guys are. Haha. Some of the coolest dudes I have ever met.
The band have been on the road for well over a year and are continuing strong after the release of last year’s much touted and loved LP Post-Nothing.
Japandroids have been releasing a series of five 7 inch singles this year – The 2nd and most recent of which for the below track “Younger Us” which is a rawkus post-punk anthem with an energy and genuine spirit that I think only Brian and Dave could pull off. These guys are the real deal. Download the track below and pick up the 7 inch right here.

So most of you who follow me on Twitter know what a huge fan of WASHED OUT aka Ernest Greene I am. Yesterday the project unveiled a new single recorded for Kia Adult Swim Singles Program featuring Caroline from Chairlift. This track has been on repeat for the last 24 hours. It is quite the breezy hypnotic tune. Sooo good.
MP3 – WASHED OUT feat Caroline Polacheck – You and I
Why hello one and all – It’s been a while…..
No doubt you have noticed a complete and total lack of posting on rock insider over the course of the last two months. Truth be told I have been working on other projects and opportunities. I’m sorry for the interruption in service to the music community of LA at large. Rock Insider has been a labor of love for a little over 5 years. As with anything there comes a time to focus on other things so that we can come back to our passions with renewed vigor.
I just wanted to post a note saying that rock insider is NOT DEAD. we are simply taking a break to re-evaluate things and make this website even better than before. I thank you for your patience.
Coming up this week: A new format for the concert calendar, one of our famous mixtapes, and new features that should renew your interest and excite your senses.
Thanks again for following us.

Well Well Well….This is Awkward.
I kind of skipped a week here at Rock Insider headquarters while I was in NYC to see the first two dates of Avi Buffalo’s spring tour with Rogue Wave. The band were also just chosen to play the Pavement curated All Tomorow’s Parties Festival in Minehead in May! Crazy stuff in store over the next few months.
Also crazy stuff in store this week in LA. Broken Bells will be playing a SOLD OUT show this Sunday at The Troubadour. My brother caught their preview show at The Bootleg a few weeks back and is still raving about the James Mercer (Shins) and Danger Mouse (badass) collab. Check out a video of the duo playing “The High Road” below.
Also this week in LA: YOU SAY PARTY! WE SAY DIE! FINALLY WILL BE PLAYING IN LOS ANGELES!!!!!!!!!!!
A few years back the band got detained at the Canadian border and weren’t allowed to enter the United States for 2 years!!! ahh I’m so excited.

Why hello everyone,
I am sure you no doubt miss my rambling blog posts and daily missives on the music community in Los Angeles. I have taken a very long hiatus from regular postings outside of my weekly concert calendar due to a demanding work load and other priorities in my life.
Plenty of news going on in the Los Angeles music community right now so and I felt inspired to report some of it. Who knows maybe I will be getting back into the swing of blogging regularly again. In the mean time here’s a quick recap of some of what’s going on…
L’KEG GALLERY FIRE. VENUE CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
One of my favorite venues to visit/play L’Keg Gallery in Echo Park caught on fire last night and will be closed until further notice. All shows scheduled for the next few weeks including Harlem’s show TOMORROW night have been canceled. As reported by L’Keg on their facebook page the fire came from outside the venue with the bulk of the damage being sustained to the venues door and roof. Nobody was injured in the fire and no artwork was damaged.
No word yet on if a donation fund has been set up for the gallery but if you would like to help out you can email L’Keg through their website.
THE FLYING TOURBILLON ORCHESTRA ARE NOW WALKING SLEEP

The Flying Tourbillon Orchestra are now Walking Sleep
First Afternoons become Shadow Shadow Shade and now The Flying Tourbillon Orchestra have decided to hop on the name change wagon and will now be called Walking Sleep. Check out the hilarious video of the band made about their forthcoming album, upcoming Echo residency, and of course the name change. I never quite mastered whether it was Tourbillion or Tour-bbeeee-on or Toooourbilllllllion……
