Rdio vs Spotify. In The U.S. Rdio Wins

I have been messing around with Rdio all week and must say I’m in love with the cloud based subscription model. I had a chance to beta test Spotify early on. It’s a great service but they’re currently stuck in negotiations with the four majors. This has left Rdio (now officially out of beta and open to the public) prime to take over the U.S. market.

Concept is simple. Rdio is a subscription based model that for 4.99 you can stream any record in their catalog for free. for $9.99 you can also enable Rdio on your mobile phone. The desktop player plays like iTunes and has a feature that will sync your already existing iTunes library with radio putting all the music you love all in one place and ALL at your fingertips. This is the first subscription model I have seen that really has a shot at taking on mass appeal.

Rdio does lack the free ad support subscription model that has made Spotify a household name is Europe. Spotify is hoping to continue negotiations to bring the service and its free ad supported model stateside.

I made a summer mixtape of my current fav tracks on Rdio. You can check it out at the link below. I strongly suggest signing up for the service – especially since their offering free 3 day trials right now.
