Major Lazer – Hold The Line (Poirier Remix)

[MP3] Major Lazer (Feat. Santogold & Mr. Lexx) – Hold The Line
[RCRD LBL] Major Lazer – Hold The Line (Poirier Remix)

I believe I mentioned earlier this week just how fucking awesome this track by Major Lazer is. Major Lazer is the new project of producers Diplo & Switch. It starts off almost sounding like a surf rock song, then suddenly you hear a horse out of nowhere and it’s all awesome from that point on. Santogold lends her vocal chops alongside Mr. Lexx. The rest is a fever pitched frantic jungle worthy club track. Head over to RCRD LBL and download a remix by Poirier.

New album Guns Don’t Kill People, Lazers Do is available June 16th. They will be playing in Los Angeles at the LA Memorial Coliseum on June 27th, 2009.

a little more info….

Major Lazer (the Jamaican commando who lost his arms in the secret zombie war of 1984 and had them replaced by lazers) lands on US soil this June with some help from his friends and Grammy-nominated producers Diplo and Switch. Presenting stateside audiences with the futuristic dancehall and digital reggae sounds crafted as a soundtrack to a not-so-distant dystopian future, clubs everywhere will be thwarting oncoming evil forces through the liberating tunes on Guns Don’t Kill People, Lazers Do.

Downtown Union – Aurora Ahora + The Henry Clay People Tour with Ben Harper!!!!

[MP3] Downtown/Union – Bright Idea
[MP3] Downtown/Union – Wake Up Call from the Nexus of Me and You

Downtown / Union have been dear friends for years and TONIGHT they are celebrating the release of their fabulous new album Aurora Ahora. Mouse over at Classical Geek Theatre said it best – They are “the underdog superheroes of the Los Angeles rock world.” The band’s stripped down Pavement meets The Replacements sound was fleshed out on this record with the addition of Joey and Andy Siara of The Henry Clay People on guitars. The record still highlights their amazing ability to write a killer rock n’ roll song while always maintaining a fun happy go lucky vibe with everything they do. Every song they write is a sing a long. Bo and Jeff Electric are seriously my heroes.

You can pick up Aurora Ahora at their release show at the Echo Tonight. The Voyeurs, Xu Xu Fang (who are also celebrating their record release) and VoicesVoices will perform.

I think everyone on the east side just let out a huge cheering “FUCK YES” cry! The Clays have also been confirmed to play Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits this year.

Nite Jewel – Weak For Me

Nite Jewel (Los Angeles, CA)

[MP3] Nite Jewel – Weak For Me

“Weak For Me” keeps popping into my iPOD when its on shuffle. The lo-fi track meets somewhere in the middle of lounge and dance music. It barely hovers above a shuffle. Nite Jewel‘s tunes are loaded with subdued drum machines and beats straight off your favorite Casio keyboard. Must say it grows on you after a while. It’s a new spin on lounge music.

The band recently announced a handful of dates with Telepathe. LA Readers can catch Nite Jewel at The Smell on May 28th.

HEALTH have a new album coming out later this year entitled GET COLOR. In anticipation of the release the band released a 7-Inch single earlier this month of a new track “Die Slow” off the new album. It even comes with an accompanying remix by the amazing Pictureplanes. You can stream both tracks on their new website at healthgetcolor.com

The track is classic HEALTH with dare I say more noise, more droning beats, and that amazing metallic guitar sound that is their absolute trademark. Pitchfork attributed to this increased industrial edge to their recent touring with NIN. I feel its coming from somewhere else.

The 7 inch is available at InSound now for a whopping $4.56. I don’t even sell my JAXART records that cheap!

Hecuba – Paradise

Hecuba (Los Angeles, CA)

[MP3] Hecuba – Miles Away

The first time I saw Hecuba was opening for Nico Stai at The Troubadour. I hate to say it the show wasn’t terribly good and I was in a fowl mood so I kind of wrote this band off. Then I heard their new album Paradise at the strong urging from our good friends over at LA Record. I’m eating my words now.

“Miles Away” is an eclectic and fabulously avant garde track complete with African-inspired drums, sirens, cutting synths, and fabulous alliteration. The track continues to build into a fever pitch by the end. To put it bluntly Paradise is fabulously weird and not in an ironic lets-fuck-around-with-keyboards-and-call-it-art kind of way. There is significant thought behind this record.

The band will be playing a series of dates this summer with Bats For Lashes. LA Readers can catch them June 16th at The El Rey Theatre

Paradise is out now on Manimal Vinyl. We heart them so much!

Neon Indian – Dead Summer

Neon Indian (Brooklyn, NY)

I don’t know where I downloaded Neon Indian‘s tracks but DAMN am I in LOOOOOOVE.

This track is quickly catching up to Empire Of The Sun‘s “Walking On A Dream” on my short list of top songs played in 2009 thus far. “Deadbeat Summer” takes your classic dance track and gives it a load of peyote. Droney vocals and a lot of random whaaaahhs and echoes. I have a feeling this will be the anthem of the Little Radio Summer Camp scene this summer.

Big Stereo dug the track as well.

Download “Deadbeat Summer” and “6669 (I don’t know if you know)” below.

Matt & Kim Go Blink182 In New Video

Matt & Kim (Brooklyn, NY)

[MP3] Matt & Kim – Lessons Learned

Adorable punkers Matt & Kim unveiled their new video today for “Lessons Learned” where the band pull a Blink 182 and strip down to their birthday suits.

The video apparently started out as a practical joke but quickly took on a life of its own. In the video the duo are seen stripping down to absolutely nothing (and we mean absolutely nothing) as they walk serendipitously through Times Square. The looks on the tourists faces are absolutely priceless.

I highly recommend watching the video all the way to the end. Head over to MTVu.com to watch the video now.

InSound Announces 7 Inch Re-Issues

This news seriously made my heart flutter today. InSound announced that they will be teaming up with labels to bring back the art of the 7 inch with a series of re-issues from your favorite post punk and indie acts. They launched the series today with back in print release from The Ramones and The Replacements. Each release is limited to 1,000 only. I already ordered mine.

7 Inches are expected to ship before June.

Details for each release below!!

The Ramones – California Sun EP: Originally released on Sire Records in 1976 and back in print for the first time in over 30 years, The Ramones California Sun EP features the title track plus I Don’t Want To Walk Around With You taped live at The Roxy on 8/12/1976. The B-side is the unforgettable studio version of I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend. This EP is highly sought after by Ramones collectors and goes for steep prices on the open market. For more details click here

The Replacements – I’ll Be You 7” Single: Back in print for the first time since the original release in 1989, this superb single from the Minnesota legends’ Don’t Tell a Soul album also contains a Non-LP B-side song Date To Church featuring the inimitable Tom Waits. The long out-of-print single is essential for Replacements and Tom Waits fans. For more details click here

Saint Motel (Los Angeles, CA)

Happy post-Coachella Monday everyone. I bet half of you readers are hung over, exhausted, sun burned and experiencing the euphoric halo effect 3 days of oppressive heat will give you. I’ve been reading recaps all morning and while I’m glad I didn’t go (Nothing better than crutching 8 miles a day across the Polo Fields) I’m really sad I missed Leonard Cohen singing “Hallelujah” at Sunset.

New Music From Sunset Rubdown!

Sunset Rubdown

[MP3] Sunset Rubdown – Idiot Heart (NEW TRACK OFF DRAGONSLAYER)

Just the other day I was asking myself “Whatever happened to Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown?” The band’s have been keeping relatively mum the past few months.

I was tickled pink to find out that Sunset Rubdown will be releasing a new album entitled Dragonslayer in June and a U.S. tour has been booked in support

Fronted by Spencer Krug also of Wolf Parade the band’s inventive and boisterous indie pop has garnered them much praise and adoration in the P4K’s of the world. The band released a new track called “Idiot Heart” just this morning on Pitchfork. The tracks starts off as a stripped down affair showing off Spencer’s unique vocal style and some squealing guitar solos the bursts into a barrage of frantic energy. I’m almost inclined to say it sounds like a borderline Interpol song. Not that it’s a bad thing.

Spencer and crew will be playing at The Echoplex on June 23rd – which is actually the release date of Dragonslayer.
